Back to school with... Goldfish Swim School? Affirmative.
DISCLAIMER: Hey reader! Please know Goldfish Swim School is a valued partner of theCityMoms. Because of this relationship, we occasionally share sponsored content we feel could be valuable or interesting for your family, like chatting how YOUR back to school planning can easily include Goldfish Swim School. Read on, reader! You have savored the last moments of summer fun. You have braved the aisles of Target stocking up on pencils, crayons, paper, and scissors. You have selected backpacks and lunch boxes and first day outfits. You are secretly or maybe not-so secretly counting down the days until you can load your children on the school bus and wave goodbye. School is back in session.
But have you signed your kids up for swim lessons?
If that seems counterintuitive to you, it shouldn’t. Sure, we think of summer as the time to hit the pool and work on our back stroke, but there are many compelling reasons to keep your children in swimming lessons all year long:
First, swimming is a vital skill no matter the time of year. And yes, your pool exposure might be the highest in the summer, but remember how much water your child may encounter on a daily basis from retention ponds to creeks to bathtubs. Knowing how to swim, or at the very least learning what to do in an emergency and how to be confident around water, is equally important as all of the knowledge your kids are learning at school!
Second, participating in extracurricular activities has been shown to improve academic performance. There is something about getting those little bodies moving that gives the brain a nice little boost. Very scientific, we know ;) But evidence consistently backs up the decision to get kids in activities. You might even notice an improvement in behavior and academics at school, because all of the skills required to do well in school like patience, listening, and following directions, are all taking place during a swim lesson, but they are disguised as fun! Worried about overloading your schedule? One 30 minute swim lesson a week is an easy addition, and Goldfish’s convenient schedule will allow you to pick a day and time that works for your family.

Third and lastly, although we are just heading off to the start of a new school year, next summer will be here before you know it. “The days are long, but the years are short,” rings too true when you have little kids in your house. So, go ahead and get a jump start on those summer pool days, and your little fish will be swimming laps around you come June!
