A peek inside theCityMoms :: Why we host recurring, monthly events

Creating an authentic community for our members is pretty much our bread and butter here at theCityMoms. We want nothing more than for the mommas who choose to join our group to find genuine connections with other women around Indy, because as we all know trying to make new friends as an adult is pretty much the scariest thing ever. So, how do we do it?

We thought you would never ask.

First, we participate in a very active members-only Facebook group. Want a second opinion on your kid’s rash? Go ahead and post that pic. Need a recommendation for a date night dinner spot? Our foodie moms are all over it. Want to celebrate the fact you remembered to put on deodorant AND pack lunches for your kiddos? We are ready to be your biggest cheerleaders.

Second, we maintain a diverse and busy calendar with something for everyone. We host moms-only nights out. We discover Indy’s best kid-friendly spots, and occasionally we take advantage of some pretty sweet exclusive events and sneak peeks. We are kinda spoiled with our mom perks.

Last but not least, we have made a commitment to recurring, monthly events. This is exciting stuff and cuts right to the heart of who we are as a group. Remember our little chat about the terror of making mom friends? Let’s say you build up the nerve to attend a CityMoms event, you discover it’s not so scary after all, and you actually have a great time and laugh at yourself for being afraid in the first place. Well, now what? Monthly events are how acquaintances become friends and how a support group you found online becomes your #MomTribe. And let’s be real, we are all B.U.S.Y. I know I love an event that is predictable and plan-around-able {hey, that’s totally a word}.

Monthly events allow us to create consistency and solidify all those relationships you are building, mom to mom, and child to child. Our Moms in charge - Jeanine, Danielle, and Kendra - agree!

Kendra says, “Members can count on these events occurring on a regular basis and can know that there will be standing opportunities for them to participate, no matter what else might be happening or not happening during a given month.” Her favorite monthly event is Book Club! A close second: The monthly coffee dates because they are super easy and allow her to explore fun, new spots.

Danielle says, “It’s like coming back home to visit family. I have met some of my best friends through tCM, and it all started with regular meetups.” Danielle is an event chameleon, but her favorites usually involve the great outdoors, and she really likes the monthly runs!

Jeanine noted "From our perspective as organizers, monthly events allow us the ease of creating something at the onset and then having minimal maintenance - definitely less strain on our volunteer organizers that way! But for new members, the consistency of something you can depend on each month is key. There's no question month-to-month when these recurring events will happen - CityMoms can just show up and enjoy." Jeanine is also a fan of the monthly runs and leads ours at Fort Harrison State Park.

Megan Bohrer

Megan, a transplant to the Midwest, still got excited by the first snow flurries of the season. Although her husband’s job as a private school administrator brought them to the area, Megan recently moved ‘home’ to Atlanta. And damn, we miss her.

When she isn’t chasing after her three children or putting herself through nursing school, Megan enjoys drinking craft beer, photography, playing soccer, and fantasizing about all of the Pinterest projects she will one day complete.
